ThreadKeep Privacy Policy

Applies to every ThreadKeep edition on the Chrome Web Store (all sites, ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Grok). Last updated October 30, 2026.

The short version

ThreadKeep keeps your folders and saved chats in your own browser. We do not run a server that receives your chats, we do not have accounts, and we do not use analytics or tracking of any kind. The only outside services involved are Creem (for payments and license keys, if you buy Pro), reached through our small license server, and a static file of page selectors that ThreadKeep downloads to keep working when sites change.

What ThreadKeep stores on your device

DataWhyWhere
Folder names, colors, tags, pins, and the title and link of chats you put in foldersTo show your folderschrome.storage in your browser
The text of chats you open on supported sitesSo you can search and export themIndexedDB in your browser, inside the extension
Your export count for the current month and your Free or Pro statusTo apply the Free plan limitschrome.storage in your browser
Your Pro license key, its activation id for this browser, and when it was last confirmed (only if you enter a key)To keep Pro on and re-check it with Creemchrome.storage in your browser

None of this is sent to us or to anyone else. You can turn off chat saving, or delete all saved chat text, from the ThreadKeep toolbar popup. Uninstalling ThreadKeep deletes everything it stored.

Where ThreadKeep runs

ThreadKeep only reads pages on chatgpt.com, claude.ai, gemini.google.com and grok.com (single-site editions only read their one site). It reads the chat list and the open conversation so it can show folders and save chats for search. It does not read your passwords, does not change what you send to the AI, and does not run on any other website.

Payments and license keys (Creem)

If you buy Pro, checkout happens on Creem (creem.io), our payment provider and merchant of record, which handles card processing, sales tax and receipts. Creem and its payment processors receive what you enter at checkout, such as your email, billing country and card details. ThreadKeep never sees your card details. Creem emails you a license key with your receipt.

When you paste the key into ThreadKeep, the extension sends it to our license server, which passes it to Creem's license API to activate it on this browser, with a short device label made of the ThreadKeep edition and your operating system name (for example "ThreadKeep on macOS"). After that, ThreadKeep checks about once a day, the same way, whether the key is still valid. These requests contain the license key, the activation id and that label, and nothing about your chats or browsing. Our license server exists only because Creem's license API needs a secret that cannot ship inside a browser extension: it forwards each request to Creem and returns the answer. So that a refunded or cancelled license stops working, it also receives purchase, refund and subscription notices from Creem and keeps a small record of them: a one-way SHA-256 fingerprint of each key (never the key itself), Creem's order, customer and subscription ids, the product, the subscription status and the dates. It holds no email address, name, card details or anything about your chats. Its short-lived operational logs record the time, the result and a one-way fingerprint of the key, never the key itself or your IP address. The server is hosted on Railway; see Railway's privacy policy.

Each key can be active on 3 browsers; "Remove license from this browser" on the ThreadKeep options page frees a slot. You can find your key again in your Creem receipt email or Creem's customer portal. See Creem's privacy policy.

Selector updates

To keep working after ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Grok change their pages, ThreadKeep downloads a small public file (selectors.json) from GitHub Pages. It contains page selectors only, never code, and the request carries no information about you or your chats. GitHub may keep standard server logs such as IP addresses; see GitHub's privacy statement.
